Nowadays, short-form videos dominate the social media platforms. Although I enjoy photography more than videography, I dabble with film editing in Premiere Pro, which is quite fun. Videos can sometimes convey a more imminent feeling through inclusion of motion and sounds. Therefore, it can be the better medium for story telling. Additionally, it can capture your attention more efficiently, when combined with a catchy sound, like it is the case in Reels and Tik Toks.

Story Telling

Creating a video is quite different than editing photos. I feel like it requires way more preparation and perception to get sensible video footage, and it is much easier if you have a script or a video idea in mind before you actually grab your camera. Here fore example, I knew I wanted to make a compilation of me, hiking through the different landscapes of the US. I was blown away by the contrasting scenes that we passed. We hiked through bamboo jungles, mountains, and the desert. With this idea in mind, I recorded short snippets everywhere we went. In hindsight, I should have been more cautious about the focal length, because they sometimes vary in the clips as you can see.

Creating a mood

My video editing skills in Premiere Pro are definitely expendable. But it is already so much fun to include color grading to the footage and to add sound effects to give a simple video a certain vibe.
