Hi! I’m a 26 years old hobby photographer, based in Boston, USA. I am passionate about outdoor and landscape photography. When I’m not outside shooting, you will probably find me in the laboratory, working in biomedical research. In January 2024 I started my Biochemistry PhD at Harvard University/LMU, where I work with protein complexes that are important for the cellular process called ‘transcription’. I am currently learning how to assemble the complexes in test tubes, so that I can eventually visualize and model their three dimensional structure using cryogenic electron microscopy!
GET TO KNOW ME!
I am an aspiring photographer from Germany, based in Boston, USA. Since I grew up near Lake Constance and the Black Forest, I was always surrounded by nature. We even see the Alps from my home town! After school, I moved to Ulm to study Molecular Medicine. During my studies, I temporarily moved to Heidelberg and Emmendingen, both for external internships. I discovered that I love the process of moving to a new city, getting to live there for a while, and then heading to my next station. After my Bachelor’s study, I was looking for a Master’s course and found the ‘International Master of Biomedicine’, which is a cooperation study offered by Université de Luxemburg, Université de Strasbourg and Johannes-Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. I knew that this Master would be the perfect fit for me, since it allowed me to both live and study in Luxembourg, France, and Germany for one semester each. I met incredible people from all around the world since the Master attracted many international students. Moving every semester together meant that we grew very close and I am thankful for the connections that I got to make during that time. Feeling the urge to live in yet another new country, I applied for an internship in Boston at Harvard Medical School. I was extremely happy when I got accepted, and moved to Boston in April 2022.
my hometown
In my free time, I love to travel, and I used to document everything I saw on my phone. I decided to take photography more seriously and bought a Sony compact camera in November 2019 (it was a very spontaneous Black-Friday-purchase, oops!). I fell in love with the process of taking pictures, and learned how to handle a digital camera. Additionally, I started to learn how to edit my favorite pictures using Adobe Lightroom Classic. One and a half years later, I decided to step up my photography game by investing into my very first full-frame digital camera. It was important to me to have something small that I can bring everywhere, while still getting high quality images. Therefore, I opted for the full-frame Sony Alpha 7c. Since then, I have been taking pictures of every vacation and trip I ever went on. Being left with thousand of pictures, I set up this website to share my images with whoever gets lost and finds themselves on my website (yes that’s you!).
WHAT KIND OF PHOTOGRAPHER AM I?
I capture everything I enjoy, which mostly includes landscapes, nature, and occasionally architecture. Since I grew up in a town with its very own skiing lift (!), I’ve always loved the mountains, and I definitely prefer winter over the summer. Snow makes me happy, while a bright hot sun makes me want to stay inside most of the time. I'm not sure if I travel to take photographs or if I take photographs to document my travels. Either way, my images are basically a travel diary of everywhere I have been to. I refer to them as my digital photographic memory. I remember the places I have been to so much better when I snapped a picture there. I remember how windy it was, how I was struggling with the composition, the lens flair or the many tourists in the shot. In a way, my SD card is an external back-up of my memories.
10 RANDOM FACTS ABOUT ME
ONE I always sleep with my window open, no matter how cold it gets.
TWO I need coffee to function properly. Sometimes, when I’m on the go, and I don’t get to drink my coffee first thing in the morning, I can be quite unbearable (I formally apologize to my friends who have to endure me during that time…)
THREE I have played music my whole life. It started with chimes, flutes, violin, akkordeon, then lastly piano. I love playing music, but I never really became excellent at any of these instruments. I play for fun and it is my way to creatively procrastinate.
FOUR I love Notion. It is the single most brilliant tool for anything and I have my whole life documented and planned out in there. If you do not have an account yet, I don’t understand how you’re organizing your life??
FIVE I think I am a bit travel obsessed. That’s a problem because I’m also plant obsessed, and they keep suffering when I’m on the go.
SIX I have watched Friends countless of times, and I can cite the whole thing.
SEVEN I have two brothers, and I feel like we have very different personalities. I like them though.
EIGHT I love Harry Potter. The Warner Bros Studio Tour in London was one of my highlights ever. In life. I cried.
NINE I hate crying.
TEN I think photography is the greatest hobby ever. It allows you to be creative, to share work publicly, to learn the science behind it, to be outdoors all the time, and to remember the places you visited. You should try it :D
