The rocks in Canyonsland National Park are shaped as they are because of the process of erosion over many years. The sandstone cliffs and canyons were carved out by the wind, rain and snow over the years, leaving behind the unique shapes and formations that make up the landscape of the park. Once of the most prominent rock formations are The Needles. These spires are tall and thin, and can be quite impressive to look at. We arrived shortly before sunset, which provided us with the most beautiful, dreamy light. The next day, we opted for a quite long hike, which lead us through a slot canyon. Walking through the narrow split in between incredibly high stone walls was so much fun!
The park is divided into two distinct regions - the north rim and the south rim - each of which offers its own set of unique features. We spent the first day at the north rim, which is characterized by its steep and rocky terrain, with high cliffs and narrow canyons. The south rim is more open and level, and features many rolling hills and meadows.
